In Honor of Betty White: A Donation to the Toucan Rescue Ranch
The Toucan Rescue Ranch is located in Costa Rica and its mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and release wildlife native to Costa Rica back to their natural habitat. It is a rescue facility that was established in 2004.
Among some of the patients that are seen at the facility are sloths, parrots, owls, and of course they specialize in toucans.

In 2007 the Toucan Rescue Ranch (TRR) made history with its parent-raised captive breeding program of Emerald Toucanets, the first in Costa Rica and only the second in the world!
In 2016 they were later able to apply the knowledge they gained from their emerald toucanet program to a similar keel-bill toucan program. The TRR is currently working on breeding programs that also include collared aracaris and chestnut mandible aracaris.
The breeding program is comprised of resident toucan patients who are deemed unreleasable, either due to being habituated to people or due to an existing injury that would hinder their ability to survive in the wild. These toucans make the ideal candidate for a breeding program.
Once the babies are born they are raised by the parents which allow for the babies to not become imprinted on humans. The babies, once mature enough, will be moved to a “pre-release” enclosure.
The pre-release enclosure is where the babies will learn to fly, eat natural foods, and learn about predators.
