Meet Twizzy! ToukitheToucan rescued Twizzy. She is a two-year-old black-necked aracari and she needs your help!
Twizzy has a beak deformity, essentially her beak is twisted. It is unknown what the true cause of her beak deformity is from, it could’ve been from trauma or from onychogryphosis of the beak. Onychogryphosis is when one side of the beak grows faster than the other which causes a deformity.
In addition to this deformity, Twizzy also has a broken and injured beak. Due to lack of treatment, her beak is now infected and necrotic.
As you could imagine it is challenging for Twizzy to eat. She is unable to get the food correctly in her mouth and when she does, it often gets stuck in her beak.
In her new home, she is being treated like a queen, getting the best care anyone can offer. Her mom has adapted her environment to help her eat. She also makes Twizzy special large pellets that are easier for her to eat and have the proper nutrition she needs. All of this is a labor of love but one that her new family is willing to take on to give her the best life that she deserves!
As you could imagine, the cost of veterinarian care is already adding up and Twizzy will likely need a lot more testing as well as possible surgery.

Twizzy is a fighter as witnessed by her will to survive under the most difficult conditions. Despite her disability, she pushes forward. Thanks to her new family she has already gained 5 grams and I’m sure she will continue to thrive with such a loving family.
